IN THE 1901 CENSUS, HIS FAMILY LIVED AT 8 DERBY STREET, OFF MARGARET STREET, BEVERLEY ROAD AND 10 PROVIDENCE ROW, BEVERLEY ROAD (1911 CENSUS). SON OF A STONE MASON. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS. EMPLOYED AS A MASON.
HUSBAND OF LAURA BURKE (1885-1976) AND TWO CHILDREN, AT 4 WEST VIEW, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL AND 33 SOMERSCALES STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED WITH THE 2ND EAST RIDING ROYAL GARRISON ARTILLERY FOR 4 YEARS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 6 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST SIZE, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT. RE-ENLISTED IN HULL ON 28/12/1914. SENT TO FRANCE ON 17/09/1915. FELL ILL AFTER 19 DAYS AT THE FRONT AND RETURNED HOME ON 6/10/1915. DISCHARGED FROM SERVICE ON 5/05/1916. DIED OF TUBERCULOCSIS, ON 22/10/1916, AGED 30. BURIED IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.
HIS BROTHER, SEAMAN, THOMAS ELTON HABBERSHAW, DROWNED ON THE WILSON LINER, “DIDO”, ON 26/02/1916, AGED 23 AND IS BURIED AT HULL NORTHERN CEMETERY.
