Harbron, George William

BORN HULL 1895. SON OF CHARLES WILLIAM HARBRON (1872-1943) & ELIZABETH HARBRON, LATE OF 1, LOUISA TERRACE, HUME STREET, HULL & 6, WILDE STREET, DANSOM LANE, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A SAW MILL LABOURER (1911 CENSUS). HE WAS EMPLOYED BY THE BRITISH OIL AND CAKE MILLS, CLEVELAND STREET, HULL, WHEN WAR BEGAN.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 08/09/1914, AGED 19 YEARS AND 1 MONTH. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS NEARLY 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 119 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR, AND GOOD VISION’ FOR THE INFANTRY. HE WAS POSTED, AS A RIFLEMAN, TO THE 12TH RIFLE BRIGADE. HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 22/07/1915. HE  HAD JUST RETURNED HOME ON LEAVE AND WAS IN THE TRENCHES FOR 24 HOURS WHEN A SHELL LANDED IN HIS TRENCH, KILLING THREE OTHERS. HE WAS KILLED, ON 06/06/1916, AGED 20. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR 1 YEAR AND 273 DAYS. UNMARRIED. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WHICH INCLUDED A BIBLE, WERE LEFT TO HIS PARENTS, CHARLES AND ELIZABETH.
HIS PHOTOGRAPH WAS PRINTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 23RD FEBRUARY 1916. *
HE LEFT THREE BROTHER, CHARLES, HERBERT AND JOHN, AND THREE SISTERS, ELIZABETH AND TWINS, LILIAN AND FLORENCE, ALL OF 6 WILDE STREET, OFF DANSOM LANE, HULL.
HE IS BURIED AT POTIJZE BURIAL GROUND, BELGIUM. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “SOMETIME, SOMEDAY WE’LL UNDERSTAND”
