LIVED WITH GRANDPARENTS, AT 8, NORTHGATE, HESSLE. (1911 CENSUS). MEMBER OF THE UNITED METHODIST CHAPEL, HESSLE. HE DID GOOD WORKS AND HAD A LARGE CIRCLE OF FRIENDS.
HE MARRIED IN 1916. HIS WIFE SARAH (CRABTREE) HARNESS, LIVED AT 108, FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL AND THEN 6, CLIFTON GARDENS, ST GEORGES ROAD, HULL (ARMY RECORDS ADDRESS) AND 169, COLTMAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD NO CHILDREN.
HE ENLISTED ON 02/11/1915. JOINED THE EAST RIDING YEOMANRY. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 4 INCHES TALL, 126 LBS WEIGHT, 35.5 INCH CHEST. WENT TO FRANCE, ON 25/12/1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1917.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 10/05/1917. *
HE IS BURIED AT TILLOY BRITISH CEMETERY, TILLOY-LES-MOFFLAINES, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE READS, “SOME DAY, SOME TIME OUR EYES SHALL SEE THE FACES KEPT IN MEMORY”
