Son of James Edwin Britton Head (1864-1937) and Elizabeth Clarke, of 12 Somerscales Street, Hull (War pension address). Son of a postman. He had three brothers and two sisters. Worked as a stable lad groom. at Newmarket (1911 Census).
He enlisted at Bury St Edmunds. Served as Private, 27923, 7th Suffolk regiment. Killed in action, on 18 Aug 1916, aged 19. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
Also commemorated on the WW1 memorial at St Charles Borromeo, Jarratt Street, Hull.
His mother was refused a war pension – “no prior dependence”.
