BORN NEWINGTON PARISH, HULL 1896. ELDEST CHILD AND ONLY SON OF CHARLES JAMES HENSON (1868-1915) & LOUISA HOLMES PYE (1872- 1954). HE HAD SEVEN SISTERS WHO LIVED AT 28, HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). A TIN CUTTER BY TRADE.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON 15/09/1914, IN THE 3RD HULL PALS REGIMENT. HIS ARMY RECORDS DESCRIBE HIM AS NEARLY 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 140LBS, 36 INCH CHEST, OF ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT, BROWN EYES, BROWN HAIR, RELIGION: CHURCH OF ENGLAND. PROMOTED CORPORAL 27/10/1915. SERVED IN EGYPT FROM 28/12/1915. TRANSFERRED TO FRANCE 08/03/1916. WOUNDED BY A BULLET IN THE RIGHT SHOULDER, 02/07/1916. RE-JOINED HIS UNIT ON 15/09/1916. CAPTURED AT CAMBRAI, ON 21/01/1917. DIED OF PNEUMONIA, ON 10/07/1918, AGED 22, AS A PRISONER OF WAR, IN AACHEN, GERMANY. BURIED IN COLOGNE SOUTHERN CEMETERY, GERMANY
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
