BORN HULL 1894. SON OF THE LATE THOMAS HEWICK AND ALICE ANN HEWICK, OF 4, CYNTHIA GROVE, DIVISION ROAD, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 6, SANDRINGHAM VILLAS, ARTHUR STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). BEFORE THE WAR HE WORKED AS A PAWN BROKER’S ASSISTANT AND AT SEA WITH THE WILSON LINE.
HE LIVED WITH HIS SISTER AT 6, SANDRINGHAM VILLAS, WELLS STREET, OFF SANDRINGHAM STREET, HULL.
HE ENLISTED IN ABERDEEN AT THE START OF THE WAR, WITH HIS TWIN BROTHER, HENRY. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 19/10/1914. HE SERVED WITH THE 1ST BATTALION, GORDON HIGHLANDERS. ARTHUR HEWICK HAD ALREADY BEEN WOUNDED TWICE BEFORE HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON THE 18/08/1916, AGED 22. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE SOMME ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER, ALICE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 18TH SEPTEMBER 1916, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL, AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
