BORN HULL 1893. SON OF ROBERT MATTHEW HUZZARD (1857-1927) AND MARY HANNAH HALL (1867- ), OF 80 WALCOTT STREET, HULL AND 41 QUEEN’S GATE STREET, HULL.
HE MARRIED ELSIE EZARD, AT HULL, ON 12/10/1912. HIS WIFE ELSIE (1895-1944) & DAUGHTER, ELVY (1913-1961), LIVED AT 6, BLANCHE GROVE, BRIGHTON STREET, HULL AND 5 LIVINGSTONE TERRACE, WALCOTT STREET. SHE LATER MOVED TO 10, ARTHUR TERRACE, HAVELOCK STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
BEFORE THE WAR, HE WORKED IN A SAW MILL. HE WAS DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST, 125 LBS WEIGHT, SCAR ON LEFT LEG,
HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 17/11/1914. TRAINED AT BEVERLEY AND RIPON. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, IN EGYPT. ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 08/03/1916. HE WAS SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS IMPRISONMENT FOR THREATENING A SUPERIOR OFFICER, ON 29/4/1916. HOWEVER, DUE TO CONSPICUOUS WORK DURING A TRENCH RAID ON 19TH/20TH JULY 1916, HIS SENTENCE WAS REMITTED. HE WAS RECOMMEMDED FOR THE DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDAL (DCM), IN THIS ACTION, BUT DID NOT RECEIVE THE MEDAL. (SEE HULL DAILY MAIL, 18/08/1916). * HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION AT SERRE, ON 13/11/1916, AGED 23. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 1 YEAR AND 363 DAYS. IS COMEMMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELSIE.
HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, EDWIN HUZZARD, LIVED AT 44 ETON STREET, HULL, ALSO SERVED IN THE HULL PALS AND SURVIVED THE WAR.
