BORN HULL 1892. SON OF REUBEN & ADA E. JACKSON, OF 29 PELHAM STREET, HULL. HE WAS AN OLD TRINITY HOUSE BOY. WORKED FOR THE WILSON SHIPPING LINE FOR 17 YEARS & LATER WITH MESSRS DAVID RUSSELL AT EDINBURGH & LEITH FOR 13 YEARS. HE WAS CAPTAIN OF THE HULL VESSEL, ‘CAMBRIC’ TORPEDOED IN THE MEDITERRANEAN, ON 31ST OCTOBER 1917. HE IS REMEMBERED ON THE TRINITY HOUSE MEMORIAL. HULL MERCHANT NAVY RECORDS. HIS WIDOW MRS A JACKSON LIVED AT 158 BEAN STREET & AT 102 WELBECK STREET, PRINCES AVENUE, HULL HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 8TH NOVEMBER & 6TH DECEMBER, 1917, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. *
The British steamship Cambric SS was torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-35 when 14 miles W. of Cape Shershel, Algeria, on October 31st, 1917 when on route from Tunis for England, with a cargo of iron ore. The captain and 23 of the crew were killed. Four men were taken prisoner by the submarine.
