HE ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS, ON 16/11/1914, AGED 25 YEARS AND 11 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 147 LBS WEIGHT, & 35 INCH CHEST. TRAINED AT BEVERLY AND RIPON, IN YORKSHIRE. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION, IN EGYPT AND FRANCE. WOUNDED IN FRANCE, ON 07/08/1916. DIED OF WOUNDS AT 7TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, ON 09/08/1916, AGED 27. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY, FOR 1 YEAR AND 268 DAYS. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, JOHN. HE IS BURIED AT MERVILLE COMMUNAL CEMETERY EXTENSION, NORD, FRANCE.
