BORN HULL 1893. SON OF JOHN WILFRED & ALICE JOHNSON, AT 10, TELFORD STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD. ONE OF FOUR BROTHERS TO DIE IN THE WAR.
HIS WIFE FLORENCE MANDER, AND DAUGHTER, MOLLIE, LIVED AT 16, BRUNSWICK AVENUE, GROSVENOR STREET, HULL (Hull Daily Mail 20/09/1917) AND 152 FOUNTAIN ROAD, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). EMPLOYED AS A MARINE ENGINEER’S CLERK, AT NORTH COAST ENGINEERING WORKS, WYKE STREET, HEDON ROAD, HULL. HE WAS WELL KNOWN IN FOOTBALL CIRCLES. PLAYED FOR HULL CITY AFC RESERVES, ALLIANCE AND OTHER TEAMS. HE WAS MARRIED WITH ONE YOUNG DAUGHTER. HE ENLISTED IN NOVEMBER 1915. SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE (4TH HULL PALS). SERVED IN EGYPT AND IN THEN IN FRANCE FROM 29/12/1915. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 10/09/1917, AGED 24. HE WAS DUE TO GO ON LEAVE IN A MONTH’S TIME.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW FLORENCE, WHO LATER MOVED TO INDIANA, PENNSYLVANIA, USA.
HE LEFT BROTHERS, HAROLD, WILLIAM GARSTON, CYRUS, AND WALTER JOHNSON, AND SISTERS, ALICE AND EDNA.
BURIED AT DUISANS BRITISH CEMETERY, ETRUN, FRANCE.
