BORN SWEDEN 1882. CAME TO HULL IN 1906. A FISHERMAN. HUSBAND OF KATE FLORENCE JOHNSON, AT 5, PEASE PLACE, PEASE STREET, HULL AND 16, SANDRINGHAM STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD THREE CHILDREN, CHARLES, VICTOR AND IDA. HE SERVED AS A FIREMAN ON THE STEAM SHIP, ‘PRINCESS DAGMAR’. LOST AT SEA ON 07/05/1918, AGED 36. COMMEMORATED ON THE TOWER HILL NAVAL MEMORIAL, LONDON AND THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.

Princess Dagmar SS was a British Cargo Steamer of 913grt and was defensively-armed. She was built by Napier & Miller, Old Kilpatrick in 1907and was powered by a steam triple expansion engine which gave 8.5 knots. On the 7th May 1918 she was torpedoed and sunk without warning in the Bristol Channel by German submarine U-54 when on passage from Swansea for France with a cargo of coal. 24 lives lost including Master.
