Born Market Weighton 1882. Son of Thomas Julian (1848-1929) and Barbara (1851-1928), of Market Weighton, Yorks. A labourer and mineral water maker. He married at Pocklington on 29/09/1905. His wife, Jane Bolton Arnold (1997-1918) and five children, lived at Church Side, Market Weighton and at 5 Princess Terrace, Dock Street, George Street, Hull. They had three sons and two daughters. His army records describe him as 5 foot, 5 inches tall, 35-37.5 inch chest, scar on left cheek and left forearm.
He enlisted Beverley on 02/08/1916. Served as a Driver, in the Royal Army Service Corps, in France, between 4/10/1916 to 24/07/1918. Newspapers report that he returned to the Hull address on 25/07/1918, where he found his wife living with another man. He murdered his ‘unfaithful’ wife with a revolver and then committed suicide by shooting himself. He was aged 37. His wife Jane, who said that she loved her husband, was aged 32. The Eastern Morning Press reported the trial on 27/07/1818 and said the address was know for prostitution. As a murderer, Julian’s medals were forfeited. His body was later reburied at Hull Northern Cemetery. Alternative Commemoration – buried in Sculcoates (Sacristy) Cemetery.
