Albert Joseph Keightley

BORN, PARIS, FRANCE, ON 19/08/1891. ONLY SON OF JOSEPH KEIGHTLEY  (1859-1913) & ANN MARIE LEROYER LAVAL (1858-), OF 57, RODNEY STREET, HULL. HIS MOTHER WAS FRENCH. HE HAD THREE SISTERS, ANN JOSEPHINE, YVONNE AND JEANNE.

EDUCATED IN FRANCE AND AT HULL’S PRYME STREET ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL. HE WAS A HAIR DRESSER AND UMBRELLA MAKER.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 10/08/1910. A REGULAR SOLDIER BEFORE THE WAR. HE WAS STATIONED AT COLCHESTER. HE WENT TO FRANCE, WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE, ON 16/08/1914. HE HAD A BRIEF LEAVE IN FEBRUARY AND RETURNED TO FRANCE ON THE 7TH FEBRUARY 1916. HE WAS KILLED A WEEK LATER BY AN UNDERGROUND GERMAN MINE, WHICH BLEW UP HIS TRENCH. HE DIED INSTANTLY ON THE 14TH FEBRUARY 1916.

HE IS REMEMBERED IN THE DU RIVIGNEY ROLL OF HONOUR, VOLUME 3, PAGE 162.

COMMEMORATED ON THE ST CHARLES BORROMEO CHURCH MEMORIAL, JARRATT STREET, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 14TH MARCH 1916. *
