BORN HULL 1881. SON OF JOSEPH LAUGHTON (1850-1915) & CLARA COOPER (1854-1913), OF 46 FRANCIS STREET, HULL. EMPLOYED AS A BRICKLAYER. HE MARRIED, ADA NEWBY, ON 11/10/1901. THEY HAD SIX CHILDREN AND LIVED AT 18 BLAKE STREET AND AT 5 NORFOLK TERRACE, NORFOLK STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).

HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 11/01/1915. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8.5 INCHES TALL, BLUE EYES, LIGHT BROWN HAIR, “HONEST , SOBER AND HARDWORKING”.

SERVED WITH THE 13TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. SENT TO INDIA ON 20/02/1916 AND DISCHARGED FROM SERVICE ON 07/11/1917, WITH SEVERE RHEUMATISM & DIABETES AS A RESULT OF INDIAN SERVICE. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 301 DAYS. HE DIED A YEAR LATER AT HOME.

HIS NAME IS LISTED ON ST CHARLES CHURCH MEMORIAL.

HE HAD NINE SIBLINGS AND HIS BROTHERS, SAM (13/11/1916) AND FRANK (11/04/1918), WERE ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR. THE THREE BROTHERS ARE COMMEMORATED  ON THE DUNSWELL SUNDIAL WW1 MEMORIAL, BEVERLEY.
