BORN HULL 1891. SON OF GEORGE THOMAS & MARTHA ELIZA LEWIS AT 18 LEES WALK, WALTON STREET, HULL. HE HAD BEEN A FISH DOCK WORKER. AND ALSO IN BUSINESS WITH HIS FATHER AS A PAINTER.

HE ENLISTED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIEMNT. POSTED TO FRANCE WITH THE BRITISH EXPEDITIONARY FORCE. WOUNDED AND RETURNED TO ENGLAND. POSTED TO FRANCE AGAIN AND WOUNDED AFTER 5 WEEKS AT THE SOMME IN 1916. HAD BEEN WOUNDED TWICE AND GASSED PREVIOUSLY AND BEEN A DISCHARGED SOLDIER. HE REJOINED AND SERVED WITH THE LIVERPOOL REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, IN SALONIKA, ON 12/06/1917, AGED 26. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 21/07/1916 AND 19TH JUNE 1917. *
HIS FATHER SERVED IN THE ARMY DURING THE WAR. THREE OTHER BROTHERS ALSO SERVED, ONE WOUNDED, ONE GASSED AND BOTH IN HOSPITAL AT THE TIME THAT WALTER LEWIS DIED. HIS BROTHER STANLEY LEWIS WAS ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR.
