Hull Teachers ww1 Memorial, Guildhall, Hull. Included the names of 27 Hull teachers lost in WW1. Two further names were added.

BORN BURFORD, OXFORD, 1890. ELDEST SON OF FRANK LONGSHAW (1866-1935) & LAURA SMITH (BORN 1866), OF 8 MAY TREE AVENUE, GARDEN VILLAGE, HULL (1911 CENSUS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND ONE SISTER, FLORENCE MARY LONGSHAW (1892-1959). AN ASSISTANT SCHOOL TEACHER.

HE MARRIED ELSIE BALDING, AT HULL, IN 1915. HIS WIFE ELSIE LIVED AT 9 RIPON TERRACE, KENT STREET, HULL. THEY HAD ONE DAUGHTER, FLORENCE MAUDE LONGSHAW, BORN ON 30/12/1916.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. (Formerly 4536, 146Th Hull Hvy. Bty., R.G.A). SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE 146TH HULL HEAVY BATTERY. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 31/07/1917, AGED 27. COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL TO THE MISSING.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, ELSIE AND DAUGHTER, WHO MOVED TO NEWCASTLE, AFTER THE WAR.

HIS BROTHER WALTER HENRY LONGSHAW(1893-1940), SERVED IN THE NORTH STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT. HIS OTHER YOUMGER BROTHER, FRANK (1898-1914) DIED IN HULL, AGED 16.
