BORN USWORTH, CO. DURHAM, 1880. LIVED IN HULL. MOTHER JANE LUN LIVED AT 10 OLIVE AVENUE, VICTOR STREET, HULL (ARMY RECORDS). HE WAS A COAL HEAVER AT ALEXANDRA DOCK. ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. SERVED AS A LANCE CORPORAL IN THE 12TH EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 14/04/1916, AGED 36. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND FOUR CHILDREN.
L/CPL GEORGE HENRY LUN 12/250. Born in 1880 in Usworth, County Durham, George was the third of five children to William and Sarah Lun. A Coal Trimmer by trade he moved south and married Jane Richardson in 1900. The couple resided at 10 Olive Avenue, Victor Street, Hull. They had five children, but their first son, Alfred, had died in 1902 as a baby. George enlisted at Hull City Hall on 15th September 1914 joining the 12th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment, ‘The Sportsmen’, 3rd Hull Pals. He was killed in action on 14th April 1916 and buried in Sucrerie Military Cemetery; he was 36 years old. Jane Lun lost two more of her children over the coming 5 years.
