BORN HULL 1896. ELDEST SON OF JOHN WILLIAM MANNERING (1871-1908) AND MARY ANN MITCHELL (1869-1955) AT 47, SWANN STREET, HULL. ONE OF SEVEN CHILDREN, TWO DIED IN INFANCY. HIS FATHER DIED IN 1908. WORKED AS A LABOURER.

HE ENLISTED AT HULL. SERVED WITH THE 10TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED AT PASSCHENDAELE, 04/10/1917, AGED 21. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT TYNE COT CEMETERY. UNMARRIED HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS WIDOWED MOTHER.
