HE WAS BROTHER TO THOMAS MAPLESDEN, AND FIVE SISTERS.
WORKED AS A SLATER BEFORE THE WAR. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3.5 INCHES TALL, 140 LBS WEIGHT, 36 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, BROWN HAIR, DEFECTIVE TEETH, CHURCH OF ENGLAND RELIGION.
HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 09/11/1914. SENTTO GALLIPOLI. HE CONTRACTED TYPHOID AT SULVA BAY ON 30/11/1915 AND EVACUATED TO MALTA. ARRIVED HOME IN ENGLAND ON 26/01/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 12/12/1916. SERVED IN THE 8TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS ON 05/06/1917, AGED 30. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 21/06/1917, AGED 30. HIS ARMY EFFECTS INCLUDED “LETTERS, TIN OF CIGARETTES, ROSARY, METAL MIRROR, PAIR OF NUMERALS AND A REGISTERED ENVELOPE”. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 209 DAYS. HE IS BURIED AT FAUBOURG D’AMIENS CEMETERY, ARRAS, FRANCE.
