Pte, Harry Maplethorpe, MGC

BORN BARROW UPON HUMBER 1891. ONLY SON OF WILLIAM GEORGE MAPLETHORPE (1858-1935) AND ELLEN BUTTON (1852-1905), OF THE MILL SKIRLAUGH. HE HAD FOUR SISTERS. HE WORKED ON THE HULL TRAMS BEFORE THE WAR.

HE MARRIED, MIRIAM SCALING, AT SCULCOATES, HULL, IN 1917. HIS WIFE & CHILD, LIVED AT CORNWALL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS) AND 8, MANCHESTER SQUARE, NEW HOLLAND, LINCOLNSHIRE.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. FORMERLY PRIVATE, 817, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. HE LATER SERVED WITH THE 57TH MACHINE GUN CORPS. HE DIED OF PNEUMONIA, AT THE 54TH GENERAL HOSPITAL, FRANCE ON 27/11/1918, AGED 27.  HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON  21/12/1918.

HIS NAME WAS LISTED ON KINGS HALL CHURCH MEMORIAL & THE SYMONS STREET ROLL OF HONOUR.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, WHO LATER MOVED TO BEEFORD, DRIFFIELD, EAST YORKSHIRE.
