BORN HULL 1877 SON OF JAMES MARPLE (1855-1903) & ELIZABETH MARPLE (1855-1918), OF 14 JOSHUA AVENUE, MADELEY STREET, HULL. BROTHERS JOHN AND JAMES. EMPLOYED AS A DOCK LABOURER. HE MARRIED IN 1904. HIS WIFE MINNIE BEATRICE (HOWARD) & THREE DAUGHTERS, LIVED AT 2 ELDORADO AVENUE, SCARBOROUGH STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS & CWGC ADDRESS). HE ENLISTED HULL. SERVED WITH THE HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY. KILLED IN ACTION, AT YPRES, ON 13TH MAY 1915, AGED 36.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 13/07/1915 & 13/05/1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, MINNIE. HIS BROTHERS JOHN AND JAMES MARPLE ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR AND SURVIVED.

Kim Semmence writes on 12th April 2016: According to the Register of Soldiers’ Effects he was also known as George Richard. He married Minnie Beatrice Howard, in Hull, in 1904.
