MARRIED AT COLTMAN STREET CHAPEL, HULL, ON 29/07/1915. THEY LIVED AT 51, WHITE STREET, HAWTHORNE AVENUE, HULL AND A BUTCHERS SHOP AT 199, HESSLE ROAD, HULL (ARMY ADDRESSES).
HIS WIFE FRANCES MAY JOHNSTON (1892-1966), MOVED TO LOW GREEN FARM, BROMPTON, YORKSHIRE (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD ONE CHILD, CHARLES (1916-1972). HE WAS EMPLOYED AS A JOINER. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 5 INCHES TALL, 35-37 INCH CHEST, AND 123 LBS WEIGHT (ARMY MEDICAL RECORDS).
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 21/12/1915. CALLED UP ON 07/04/1916. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 21/07/1916. SERVED WITH THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. WOUNDED ON 25/07/1917. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 27/09/1916, AGED 25, AT THE 36TH CASUALTY CLEARING STATION, MERICOURT, FRANCE. BURIED AT THE SOMME. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW, FRANCES.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 28/09/1917.
