BORN HULL 1886. SON OF WALKER MAYNARD (1858-1907) & EMMA NICHOLLS (1855-1931), OF 93, SOMERSCALES STREET, HULL, 4 BRIGHTON TERRACE, HOPWOOD STREET, HULL & 8, FERNDALE AVENUE, EDGECUMBE STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). ONE OF SIX CHILDREN AND THREE SONS KILLED IN THE WAR.
HE MARRIED EMILY ANDREW (1889-1967) AT HULL IN 1911. THEY HAD TWO SONS, STAN AND SIDNEY, LIVING AT 23, BLAYDES STREET AND 8, JESSMINE VILLAS, FIELD STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HE WAS EMPLOYED AT THE HULL POST OFFICE, LIVING AT 38, REYNOLDSON STREET, HULL (1913 TRADES DIRECTORY ADDRESS).
HE ENLISTED IN THE POST OFFICE RIFLES. SERVED AS LANCE CORPORAL, 371358, 8TH LONDON REGIMENT. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION, ON 20/09/1917, AGED 32.
HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.
HIS NAME WAS ALSO LISTED ON HULL’S BLAYDES STREET ROLL OF HONOUR AND AT ST JOHNS NEWLAND WAR MEMORIAL, HULL.
HE LEFT THREE SISTERS, ADA, BEATRICE AND LAURA.
HIS ONLY TWO BROTHERS, WERE ALSO KILLED IN THE WAR. PRIVATE, JOSEPH TOWSE MAYNARD, 2ND SOUTH STAFFS, KILLED AT ARRAS ON 28/04/1917, AGED 22.
AND CSM, STANLEY MAYNARD, DCM, 1ST BORDER REGIMENT, KILLED IN ACTION, ON 15/10/1918, AGED 22. ALL THREE MAYNARD BROTHERS ARE RECORDED TOGETHER ON THE ST JOHNS NEWLAND WAR MEMORIAL, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL.
