George McNamee, Royal Navy, HMS Queen Mary

BORN HULL 25/09/1879. SON OF JOHN & HANNAH, OF 29 , LANSDOWNE STREET, HULL ROAYL INFIRMARY, HULL

A MARRIED MAN. EDUCATED AT USHER COLLEGE, DURHAM. AN ABLE LINGUIST. HE WORKED AS AN INTERPRETER. ALSO A BRILLIANT MUSICIAN, WRITER AND HAD TRAVELLED WIDELY IN EUROPE. HE ENLISTED IN THE ROYAL NAVY ON 12/08/1910 TO 10/02/1912. SERVED AS WARRANT OFFICER AND HEAD SCHOOLMASTER FOR THE ROYAL NAVY, ON HMS “QUEEN MARY”. HE RE-ENLISTED WHEN WAR BEGAN. WAS LOST ON THE BATTLE CRUISER, HMS “QUEEN MARY”, AT THE BATTLE OF JUTLAND, ON 31/05/1916, AGED 36.

HIS DEATH ENDED A PROMISING CAREER. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND ONE CHILD.

HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE PORTSMOUTH NAVAL MEMORIAL. ALSO LISTED ON THE ST VINCENT’S CHURCH MEMORIAL, QUEENS ROAD, HULL
