Medcalf, George Henry

BORN HULL 26/08/1898.  SON OF JOHN HENRY MEDCALF AND ANNIE MEDCALF, OF NOTTINGHAM & 1, ALBION PLACE, WILLIAM STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A WOOD MACHINIST. THIRD OF EIGHT CHILDREN. A LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 29/11/1916. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT 2 INCHES TALL, 124 LBS WEIGHT, 36.5 INCH CHEST. HE LIVED WITH HIS MOTHER, ANNIE,  AT THIS ARMY ADDRESS. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 13/02/1918. TRANSFERRED TO THE SHERWOOD FORESTERS. HE WAS KILLED A MONTH LATER, ON 19/03/1918, AGED 18. BURIED IN FRANCE.

HIS FATHER, PRIVATE, JOHN HENRY MEDCALF, SERVED IN THE EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, AND WAS BADLY WOUNDED ON THE SOMME, AGED 41. (HDM PHOTO. 27/07/1916)
