BORN HULL 1891. SON OF TOM MITCHELL & MARIE LOUISA WALTON, OF 7, QUEENS TERRACE, ST PAULS STREET AND 135 FRANCIS STREET. HIS FATHER WAS A HULL SCHOOL TEACHER. HE HAD THREE BROTHERS AND A SISTER. EMPLOYED AS A SHIPPING OFFICE CLERK.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. COMMISSIONED TO THE LEWIS GUN SECTION. DIED OF BRONCHO PNEUMONIA, AT CAMIERS HOSPITAL, FRANCE, ON 04/11/1918, AGED 27.

HIS WIFE, MABEL MITCHELL LIVED AT 48, BRUNSWICK AVENUE, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS). HE LEFT HER £48 IN HIS WILL.

BURIED AT ETAPLES MILITARY CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS”.

HIS YOUNGER BROTHER, SERGEANT, LAURIE MITCHELL, 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT WAS KILLED AT YPRES, ON 03/05/1915 AGED 22 YEARS.
