BORN HULL 1883. SON OF JOHN MORTIMER (1847-1903) AND LOUISA BARBER (1855-1938), FIRST ENGINEER, LOST ON THE TRAWLER “SOUTHWARD HO”. HIS WIFE JANE ELLEN AND THREE CHILDREN LIVED AT THIS CWGC ADDRESS WHICH GIVE HIS INITIALS AS E. W. MORTIMER.
On 27/05/1915 the Hull steam trawler SOUTHWARD HO (H456) was lost with all hands due to enemy action 88 miles E.x N. of Spurn Head. Also reported as Missing, lost all hands. Vessel built in 1899 by Doig & Broadley.
