WORKED AS A GENTS HOSIER ASSISTANT. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 3.5 INCHES TALL, 131 LBS WEIHJT, 37-40 INCH CHEST, “GOOD” PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE ENLISTED AT BEVERLEY, ON 09/11/1916, AGED 37. POSTED TO FRANCE 19/01/1917. SERVED WITH THE 6TH LEICESTERSHIRE REGIMENT. HE DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 03/05/1917, AGED 38. HE WAS DESCRIBED, AS PTE., W C MURDOCK IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL & REPORTED AS DIED OF WOUNDS. HE LEFT HIS ARMY EFFECTS JOINTLY TO HIS WIDOW FANNY AND MOTHER MRS HANNAH RIX. HE IS BURIED AT BUCQUOY ROAD CEMETERY, FICHEUX. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “BEYOND RECALL BUT EVER IN THOUGHT”.
