HE ENLISTED IN HULL ON THE 20/02/1917. TRANSFERRED TO 52ND DURHAM LIGHT INFANTRY, ON 1/11/1917. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 06/12/1917. HE WAS KILLED IN ACTION BETWEEN THE 25TH & 29TH MARCH 1918. COMMEMORATED AT THE POZIERES MEMORIAL. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, FREDERICK.
