Neylon, John Thomas

BORN HULL 1892. SON OF JOHN NEYLON (1853-1933) & MARY LEYDON (1853-1894), of 4 JOHN COURT, SPENCER STREET, HULL, 3, SISTER’S PLACE, MARLBOROUGH PLACE, HULL, 3, BEADLE TERRACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL AND 18, GARDEN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HE HAD FOUR SISTERS AND TWO BROTHERS, MICHAEL & EDWARD NEYLON.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1/4TH EAST YORKSHIRES, AT YPRES, IN APRIL 1915. TRANSFERRED TO THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE BATTALION. KILLED ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SOMME BATTLE, 1ST JULY 1916, AGED 24.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 25/8/16, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME, FRANCE.

HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS FATHER JOHN NEYLON. HIS WAR PENSION WENT TO HIS FATHER AND GUARDIAN, MRS MARIA FROST, 26, LOCKWWOD STREET, HULL

HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, 3/6642, EDWARD NEYLON, 8TH EYR WAS KILLED ON, 13/11/1916 AND ALSO RECORDED ON THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL.

(CWGC SPELL HIS SURNAME AS NAYLOR BUT BOTH BROTHERS APPEAR ON THE SAME WAR PENSION CARD AS NEYLON)
