BORN HULL 28/09/1891. SON OF FREDERICK MATTHEW AGAR (1856-1941) & MARGARET ANN WEATHERILL (1867-1921), OF 28, FOUNTAIN STREET, ANLABY ROAD, HULL AND HOWDEN. HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND FIVE SISTERS. HIS FATHER WAS THE HOWDEN RAILWAY STATION MASTER. HE WAS A SCHOOL TEACHER WHO HAD SERVED IN THE 5TH EYR TERRITORIALS. HE EMIGRATED TO HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA ON 12/04/1913.
HE ENLISTED IN THE CANADIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE AND WAS KILLED IN ACTION ON 30/10/1917 AGED 26. HIS CANADIAN WAR RECORDS REPORT THAT THIS OFFICER HAD BEEN WOUNDED IN THE HEAD BEFORE REACHING THE FINAL OBJECTIVE. HIS WOUND WAS DRESSED AND HE REMAINED IN THE FRONT LINE. HE DECIDED TO RETIRE TO THE CLEARING STATION AND HAD GONE 30 YARDS WHEN HE WAS HIT IN THE HEAD BY A GERMAN SNIPER AND KILLED INSTANTLY. HE WAS BURIED AT ZONNEBEKE AND NOW RESTS AT PASSCHENDAELE NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, BELGIUM.
HIS BROTHER, PRIVATE, CYRIL CUTHBERT AGAR, 52914, 2ND WEST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT, DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 01/08/1918, AGED 19.
