HIS MOTHER DIED IN CHILDBIRTH AND HIS FATHER REMARRIED. HE MARRIED IN 1911, AGED 26. WIFE FLORENCE WARD (1884-1929) AND SON LESLIE BORN IN 1914, LIVED AT 7 , SOMERSET STREET, HESSLE ROAD, HULL. HE SERVED IN THE MERCHANT NAVY. DROWNED, ON 15/11/1915, AGED 29. HE LEFT £269 IN HIS WILL TO HIS WIDOW, FLORENCE AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS.
HIS BROTHER, ALFRED PETHERBRIDGE, WAS ALSO LOST AT SEA, ON THE TRAWLER ‘NEPTUNIAN’, ON 27/10/1918. HIS HALF BROTHER, DAVID CYRIL PETHERBRIDGE, ALSO DIED AT SEA, ON 19/09/1918, AGED 20.

On the 15/11/1915 the Hull steam trawler EDWARD B. CARGILL (H.412) foundered and was lost after detonating a mine off Spurn Point, North Sea.
