BORN HULL 1891. SON OF EDWARD PITTAWAY (1856-1929) & SARAH JANE STARK (1859-1942), OF 4, HENLEY VILLAS, ADDERBURY GROVE, BEVERLEY ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF A LABOURER. YOUNGEST OF SEVEN CHILDREN. HIS BROTHER CHARLES DIED IN 1911, AGED 20.

HE WAS UNMARRIED AND WORKED AS A COOPER.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED AS A GUNNER IN THE 2ND NORTHUMBRIAN, ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. KILLED IN ACTION ON 21/10/1916, AGED 25. HE IS COMMEMORATED AT THE THIEPVAL MEMORIAL, SOMME. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE RETURNED TO HIS FATHER, EDWARD.

HE LEFT BROTHERS RALPH, EDWARD, GEORGE & SISTERS, EVA AND OLIVE PITTAWAY AT THE SAME ADDRESS.

HIS NAME IS INSCRIBED ON THE STONE PILLAR MEMMORIAL AT ST MARYS CHURCH, SCULCOATES, LANE, HULL,
