Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE HAROLD POTTER 14/87. A famous name in another time, Harold was born in Withernsea in 1897, the third of four sons to William and Lucy Potter. Both parents died before Harold was 14 and he was left in the care of a relative at 20 Withernsea Street, Hull. An Oil Miller before the war he enlisted at City Hall on 1st November 1915 initially joining the 14th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment before transferring to the 11th as time spent out of the line with various illnesses found him redeployed. Harold was listed as missing on 8th September 1918 and was later presumed killed when his body never turned up. He simply vanished in a hail of shellfire. Harold Potter is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial; he was 21 years old.
