BORN HULL 1891. HULL PAL. PARENTS JONATHAN POWELL (1857-1933) & FRANCES JACKSON (1847-1927), OF 19, CAVENSISH SQUARE, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 15, MAY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). SON OF AN INSURANCE AGENT FROM CHELTENHAM. HE HAD FOUR BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.

EMPLOYED AS A LOCAL SCHOOL TEACHER, FOR THE HULL BOARD OF EDUCATION. HIS BROTHER ARTHUR HESSLEWOOD POWELL (1882-1939), WAS ALSO A HULL TEACHER. HIS BROTHER JONATHAN FREDERICK POWELL, SERVED IN THE WAR, AS 269047. MACHINE GUN CORPS.

THOMAS ENLISTED IN THE HULL PALS. SERVED IN THE 10TH EAST YORKSHIRE REGIEMNT. KILLED IN ACTION, AT OPPY WOOD, ON 3RD MAY 1917, AGED 26.

HE IS COMMEMORATED AT ST JOHNS CHURCH, NEWLANDS, CLOUGH ROAD, HULL
