Born Devizes, Wiltshire, 1891. HDM Military Funeral. Son of Thomas Robbins; Husband of Florence Emma Robbins, of 11, St. Paul’s Rd., Fortuneswell, Portland, Weymouth, Dorset. She lived with her sister at 25 Cyprus Street, Marfleet, Hull.
He had joined the Royal Navy aged 16, and had served for 12 years. Served on HMS ‘Bristol’ during the Falkland Islands sea battle. Promoted to Petty officer, Stoker, on the Minesweeper ‘Penrath’, which was mined off South Shields, after the war. He had been in the water for over two hours, but managed to get to a life boat, and take the oars. He expired in the boat and died in the arms of Signalman, Hardford. He had many friends in Hull, and was intending to settle in the City when he left the Navy. He was member of the Lee Smith Mission, in Hull.
His death was reported in the Hull Daily Mail on 11/02/1919, with his photograph. *
