FORMERLY, PRIVATE, 32470, OF THE WEST RIDING REGIMENT. TRANSFREERED TO THE HULL PALS. COMMEMORATED ON THE LUDDENDEN AND MIDLEY WAR MEMORIAL, WHICH LISTS 45 NAMES OF THOS KILLED IN WW1.
Hull Pals Memorial Post. PRIVATE ANGUS ROBINSON 30407. Born in Hull in May 1899, Angus was the youngest of five children to Angus and Sarah Robinson of 22 Thorney Lane, Midgley, Yorkshire. The family worked in the Cotton industry in various capacities and Angus was no different, following his father and elder siblings into the mills. He enlisted on 17th August 1917 joining the West Riding Regiment as 32470 before transferring to the 11th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment on his arrival in Flanders on 31st March 1918. He joined the Pals on 2nd April and 10 days later was missing presumed dead. Angus was killed in action on 12th April 1918 during the darkest hours of the German Spring Offensive, it was his first and last taste of combat. No body was ever recovered and Angus Robinson is commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial; he was 18 years old.
