BORN CARDIFF 1899. SON OF BENJAMIN & ANNIE ALMOND (1871-1928), OF 57 WALKER STREET, HULL (CWGC ADDRESS), & 32 FLORENCE AVENUE, HULL ROAD. (Hull Daily Mail address, 05/12/1918). SON OF AN ENGINE DRIVER. HE ENLISTED IN BEVERLEY. SERVED WITH THE 1/5TH TERRITORIALS, NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS.
HE DIED OF BRONCHITIS AND GAS POISONING IN GERMANY. HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON THE 13TH DECEMBER 1918, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH. * HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS FATHER, BENJAMIN.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE HESSLE ROLL OF HONOUR, ALL SAINTS PARISH CHURCH. HE IS BURIED AT LA VILLE-AUX-BOIS BRITISH CEMETERY, AISNE, FRANCE. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “THOSE WHO HAVE LOVED AND LOST UNDERSTAND WARS BITTER COST – MOTHER”
