BORN HULL 1881. SON OF HENRY ROGERSON (1856-1899) & NORAH JULIA BLOWMAN (1861-1932), OF 98, BALFOUR STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) & 21, HOLLAND STREET, HOLDERNESS ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). HIS MOTHER WAS BORN IN BRIMINGHAM. BROTHERS HARRY, SIDNEY & WALTER. SISTERS HANNAH, LIZZIE, MINNIE, NORAH, ALICE,  EMMA & ADA. HE WAS A SHIPYARD LABOURER. JOSEPH HAD THREE BROTHERS AND SIX SISTERS, THREE OF WHICH WERE PACKERS FOR THE RECKITT’S BRASSO WORKS. HE WORKED AS A SHIPYARD LABOURER WITH HIS BROTHER HARRY.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/03/1916, AGED 35. HE IS COMMEMORATED ON THE YPRES MENIN GATE MEMORIAL, BELGIUM.

MARRIED AT HULL IN 1915. HE LEFT WIDOW, MARY ELIZABETH TOMLINSON (BORN 8/1/1886) AND FIVE STEP CHILDREN AT 63, LIME STREET, HULL AND 12, EGTON STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESSES). HIS WIFE REMARRIED AND BECAME MRS BORRILL.

HIS BROTHER HARRY (JOHN HENRY ROGERSON) , WAS A SERGEANT, IN THE 1ST NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS, DIED AT YPRES, ON 21ST MARCH 1918, AGED 32.
