BORN HULL 29/01/1889. SON OF GEORGE TITUS RYMER & ELIZABETH FOREMAN, OF 5, SKILLS TERRACE, ST LUKE’S STREET, HULL. FORMERLY A FITTER FOR THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, ENGINEER’S DEPARTMENT ON HULL DOCKS.
HE ENLISTED AT HULL, IN AUGUST 1914. SERVED IN THE 1ST EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 09/04/1917, AGED 29.
HE LEFT A WIDOW, GERTRUDE & TWO DAUGHTERS, ELIZABETH AND EDITH, AT 6, TICHBOURNE TERRACE, BEAN STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED, WITH HIS PHOTOGRAPH, IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL ON 14TH JULY 1917 AND ON 25TH MAY 1917. *
NB: H RYMER WAS LISTED ON KINGS HALL METHODIST CHURCH MEMORIAL, SYMONS STREET, HULL.
Killed at Arras or also known as the ‘First Battle of the Scarpe, 9-14 Apr 1917, which included the capture Monchy le Preux and the Wancourt Ridge.

09 July 2015 – Joseph was my great-grandma’s uncle. Either prior to, or not long after, his enlistment he married Gertrude Lee. They had one child, Elizabeth Rymer, born on the 23rd August 1914. I do not know anything about the movements of Joseph’s Battalion, but I imagine he never knew Elizabeth. I understand that he was killed in action, in France and Flanders on the 9th April 1917 (He may not have known his daughter, but he ‘left a legacy’; she went on to have nine children).
