HE WORKED AS A DRAPER’S APPRENTICE. HE ENLISTED IN HULL. EX 11/590 EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. TRANSFERRED TO THE 12TH SOUTH WALES BORDERES. KILLED IN ACTION ON 09/06/1917, AGED 21. HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME AT FINS NEW BRITISH CEMETERY, SOREL-LE-GRAND. HIS GRAVE INSCRIPTION, READS, “GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS”.
