BORN BRAMPTON, DERBYSHIRE, 1885. SECOND SON OF GEORGE SAUL (1856-1927) & MARY MAYCOCK (1861-1912) OF 86, RUNDALL STREET, BLACKBURN (1891 CENSUS) AND 8, TAYLOR STREET, CLEETHORPES (1901 CENSUS). HE HAD ONE OLDER BROTHER. EMPLOYED AS A STEREOTYPER.
HE MARRIED ALICE MARY TINDALE (1890-1919), AT ST JAMES CHURCH, HULL ON 22/01/1914. THEY HAD TWO SONS, FRED AND THOMAS AND LIVED AT 27, REGENT STREET, HULL (1911 CENSUS) AND 20, GLASGOW STREET HULL (1918 MILITARY VOTERS ADDRESS).
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 2ND WEST RIDING REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 05/06/1918, AGED 34.
HE IS BURIED AT BIENVILLERS MILITARY CEMETERY, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS WIDOW ALICE, WHO DIED IN 1919. HER MOTHER, ANNIE TINDALL BECAME GUARDIAN OF THEIR SONS, FREDDY AND THOMAS.
HIS NAME IS RECORDED ON THE WW1 MEMORIAL AT ST JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH, NEWINGTON, HULL.
