BORN BEVERLEY 1890. SON OF GEORGE SCAIFE (1851-1933) & ALICE MELBOURNE (1855-1902). HE WORKED AS A HORSE MAN ON A FARM IN SWINE (1911 CENSUS). JOINED THE NORTH EASTERN RAILWAYS, IN JUNE 1912, AS A GANGMAN. ALSO WORKED AS A FREIGHT SHUNTER, AT THE WEST HULL STATION.
HE MARRIED SARAH JANE BAILEY (1893-1972) AT HULL, IN 1914.
HE ENLISTED IN YORK, ON 15/11/1915. JOINING THE RAILWAY PALS – 17TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. WOUNDED BY A BULLET IN THE LEFT ARM, IN SEPTEMBER 1916. TRANSFERRED TO THE 8TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 27/09/1918, AGED 28. HE LEFT A WIDOW AND YOUNG SON, HERBERT AT 52 JANE STREET, HULL. THEIR DAUGHTER, MARGUERITTA, DIED IN INFANCY IN 1917.
HE IS BURIED AT CHAPEL CORNER CEMETERY, SAUCHY-LESTREE, PAS DE CALAIS, FRANCE.
HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED WITH OTHER RAILWAY WORKERS IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 07/12/1919.
