HE WORKED AT 5 THE MARKET PLACE, BEVERLEY. HE LIVED WITH HIS MARRIED SISTER AND BROTHER IN LAW, AT 8 ALBERT TERRACE, ST MARY’S, BEVERLEY. ENLISTED IN HULL, ON 26/04/1915, GIVING A YOUNGER AGE OF 33 YEARS AND 330 DAYS. HIS ARMY RECORDS, DESCRIBE HIM AS 5 FOOT, 9 INCHES TALL, 154 LBS WEIGHT, 37 INCH CHEST, ‘GOOD’ PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE WAS POSTED TO EGYPT, ON 02/06/1915. INVALIDED FROM ALEXANDRIA, TO ENGLAND, ON 24/11/1915, SUFFERING FROM PYRESCIA. AND ENTERIC FEVER. HE WAS IN HOSPITALS AT MANCHESTER AND ROCHDALE. DISCHARGED AND GIVEN 6 WEEKS HOME LEAVE. ON THE EVE OF GOING TO CATTERICK, HE COMMITTED SUICIDE BY HANGING HIMSELF IN A HAY LOFT, AT WOOD LANE, BEVERLEY. BEING OF UNSOUND MIND AND “DURING TEMPORARY INSANITY”. HIS BODY WAS FOUND ON 26/06/1916.
