HE HAD A YOUNGER BROTHER, HERBERT, AND TWO SISTERS, IDA AND LILIAN. A DOCK LABOURER. HE ENLISTED IN HULL, IN 1901, AGED 23. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT , 6 INCHES TALL, BROWN EYES, BROWN HAIR, 122 LBS WEIGHT, 37 INCH CHEST SIZE, WESLYAN RELIGION. SERVED WITH THE YORK AND LANCASTER REGIMENT, IN INDIA AND CHINA. HE LEFT IN 1908. WORKED AS A LABOURER. LIVING AT VICTORIA MANSIONS, GREAT PASSAGE STREET, HULL. HE RE-ENLISTED IN THE RESERVES ON 13/02/1913. CALLED UP ON 05/08/1914, AT THE OUTBRAK OF WAR. POSTED TO FRANCE, ON 01/05/1915. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 08/05/1915, AGED 37. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 14 YEARS AND 85 DAYS. HIS NAME WAS INSCRIBED ON THE MARMADUKE STREET SHRINE.
