EMIGRATED TO AUSTRALIA ON 29/04/1906. WORKED AS A RAILWAY PORTER. ENLISTED AT BLACKBOY HULL, WESTERN AUSTRALIA, ON 31/08/1914, AGED 22 YEARS AND 6 MONTHS. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 7 INCHES TALL, 10 STONE AND 7 LBS WEIGHT, 34 INCH CHEST, BLUE EYES, AND DARK HAIR. HE EMBARKED FOR GALLIPOLI. STRUCK DOWN WITH DYSENTERY. SPENT TIME AT MUDROS AND MALTA HOSPITALS. TRANSFERRED TO WANDSWORTH HOSPITAL, LONDON, ON 24/09/1915. STATIONED IN WEYMOUTH AND PERHAM DOWNS, SALISBURY, ENGLAND. HE LEFT FOR FRANCE, ON 09/08/1916. IN FRANCE, HE SPENT TIME IN HOSPITALS WITH TRENCH FEET, SCABIES AND BRONCHITIS. RECEIVED A SHELL WOUND TO THE ABDOMEN, ON 23/04/1918. DIED OF WOUNDS, AT THE AMERICAN HOSPITAL, BOULONGE, ON 11/06/1918, AGED 25. HE IS BURIED AT WIMEREUX COMMUNAL CEMETERY, FRANCE. HIS ARMY EFFECTS WERE LEFT TO HIS MOTHER WHO MOVED TO 2 BURTON TERRACE, CHANTRY LANE, BEVERLEY, AND HIS ONLY SISTER LILY.
