BORN HULL 1891. SON OF ROBERT SHOOTER (1860-1937) & HARRIET ANNIE WILLIS (1862-1927), OF 40, CAVE STREET, HULL (ARMY ADDRESS). HE HAD TWO BROTHERS AND THREE SISTERS.
HE HAD PREVIOUSLY SERVED IN THE ROYAL FIELD ARTILLERY. HE WAS A PORTER/GUARD FOR THE HULL & BARNSLEY RAILWAY. DESCRIBED AS 5 FOOT, 8 INCHES TALL, 36-38 INCH CHEST, 130 LBS WEIGHT, GOOD PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.
HE MARRIED AT ST ANDREW’S, HULL ON 07/02/1915. HUSBAND OF FLORENCE DAVIS, AT 37, ST PAUL STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS).
ENLISTED AT HULL, ON 10/12/1915. REMAINED IN THE RESERVES AT HOME. CALLED UP ON 08/02/1917. POSTED TO FRANCE ON 27/3/1917 AND THEN TO EGYPT, ON 31/12/1917.
APPOINTED AS ACTING CORPORAL IN THE RAILWAY & CANAL COMPANY, ROYAL ENGINNERS, ON 9/8/1918.
HE DIED OF MALARIA CONTRACTED ON ACTIVE SERVICE, 27/11/1918, AGED 27, AT NO 27, GENERAL HOSPITAL, CAIRO. HE IS BURIED IN EGYPT. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR 2 YEARS AND 352 DAYS.
HIS ARMY EFFECTS INCLUDED A CAP BADGE, WALLET, PURSE, LETTERS, CARDS, A BRACLET IN A CASE, PIECE OFSILK, 2 SILK HANKERCHIEFS, A CHILD’S HANDBAG AND TABLE COVER, PRESUMABLY PRESENTS TO BE SENT HOME.
HIS BROTHERS ALSO SERVED IN THE WAR – SGT. FREDERICK SHOOTER , RFA, & PTE. HARRY SHOOTER, COLDSTREAM GUARDS, WHO BOTH LIVED AT 40, CAVE STREET, HULL.
