EDUCATED AT OSBORNE STREET COUNCIL SCHOOL, HULL. HE WAS SENT TO EAST MOOR, REFORNATORY SCHOOL, IN LEEDS AGED 14, FOR THEFT, BEGGING, PLAYING FOOTBALL IN THE STREET. HE WAS SEEN AS A “BAD” CHARACTER. DESCRIBED AS DARK BROWN EYES, DARK BROWN HAIR, SMALL BUILD, PROTESTANT RELIGION.
HE MARRIED ON 3RD JAN 1915, AT ST THOMAS CHURCH, HULL. HUSBAND OF ETHEL HAMMOND (1895-1980), OF 11, PLEASANT PLACE, GOODWIN STREET, HULL, 1 PRINCE OF WALES TERRACE, STANIFORTH PLACE, HULL AND 6, GIBSONS BUILDINGS, WAVERLEY STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD TWO DAUGHTERS,
HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 7TH YORKSHIRE REGIMENT. DIED OF WOUNDS, ON 03/09/1917, AGED 23, AT NO:19 CASUALTY CLEARING STATION..
