HE MARRIED AT SCULCOATES REGISTRY OFFICE, HULL, 16/09/1914. HUSBAND OF EMILY FLORENCE (PEARSON), OF 4 GRANVILLE TERRACE, MANCHESTER STREET, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEIR ONLY SON, CHARLES VICTOR ST RUTH WAS BORN ON 10/04/1915.
ENLISTED HULL ON 25/05/1914. A FORMER TERRITORIAL. ENLISTED AT YORK, ON 14/07/1913, AS PRIVATE, 5790, AND SERVED WITH THE 3RD & 4TH BATTALIONS, EAST YORKSHIRE REGIMENT.
HE ARRIVED IN FRANCE, ON 15/06/1916. SERVED AS CORPORAL IN THE ARMY SERVICE CORPS. KILLED IN ACTION, ON 30/03/1918, AGED 26. HE HAD SERVED IN THE ARMY FOR THREE YEARS AND 311 DAYS. HE IS BURIED ON THE SOMME.
IT TOOK UNTIL 05/06/1918, WHEN HIS WIDOW AND CHILD WERE INFORMED OF HIS DEATH AND HIS WIFE WROTE REPEATEDLY TO THE WAR OFFICE FOR INFORMATION, AS SHE WAS IN “GREAT SUSPENSE”.
