BORN HULL 1886. SON OF WALTER & CLARA STANING, OF 455 ANLABY ROAD, HULL. EDUCATED AT HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL. HIS SISTER MURIEL DIED ON 13/03/1908, AGED 23.

HE SERVED IN THE 1ST EYR FROM 07/01/1902 – 31/08/1908, REACHING THE RANK OF COMPANY SERGEANT MAJOR. HE THEN ENLISTED IN THE 5TH EYR TERRITORIALS FOR 1 YEAR, BEFORE GOING TO CANADA ON 31/03/1910.

HE WORKED AS A CLERK FOR MESSRS WHITE AND SONS, CUMBERLAND STREET, HULL.

HE MARRIED IN HULL IN 1914. HIS WIFE, ANNIE GILLING, LIVED AT 1, BROOKLYN AVENUE, PERTH STREET, HULL AND LATER 87, HALL ROAD, HULL (WAR PENSION ADDRESS). THEY HAD ONE DAUGHTER, MURIEL BORN ON 22/04/1917.

HE ENLISTED IN HULL. SERVED WITH THE 12TH/13TH NORTHUMBERLAND FUSILIERS. KILLED IN ACTION ON 8/10/1918, AT CAMBRAI, AGED 32.

HE LEFT £152 TO HIS WIDOW, ANNIE, AT THIS PROBATE ADDRESS.

HE IS LISTED ON THE HULL GRAMMAR SCHOOL ROLL OF HONOUR & IN HOLY TRINITY CHURCH.

ALSO COMMEMORATED ON THE ST MARYS WW1 MEMORIAL, SCULCOATES LANE, HULL AND AT ST MARY’S CHURCH, LOWGATE, HULL.

HIS DEATH WAS REPORTED IN THE HULL DAILY MAIL, ON 08/10/1919. HE IS ALSO REMEMBERED ON THE FAMILY GRAVE IN HULL WESTERN CEMETERY.
